Can Asians Be Emo?

That's a stupid question, really. But I'm just posting it for the sake of the stereotype of all emo boys being a handsome Westerner. (Dyed Jet Black hair, long fringes, a cute face, black eyeliner/eyeshadow, slitting wrists?)

So here's my question: Why is it this way?

Can't people who are opposites of those qualities be emo too?

E.g.: Those 'not-so-handsome' Asians with afros who looks cheerful 24/7 could be emo too?

By the way.. the "Emo" that American kiddies support (long black hair, eyeliner, etc) is actually from Asia. The look ,everything, except the eyeliner which some American loser threw in there to make it more 'dark' and 'rebelling' Anyways my point is the typical 'emo' look that American-wannabes have is actually a common look for Asian guys. It's shocking that when an Asian guy with pure white skin, long black straight hair about up to his chin cut into layers, and "girl pants" comes to America and is considered a wannabe when that's how it was and has been in Asia for a loooong time. And in Asia their now considered 'girl pants' ....it's not my fault the guys there actually wear stuff that fits them instead of sagging pants like kids in America.

By the way.. Asians would be depressed but eurgh.. it's only the uneducated Americans that are 'emo' and slit wrists etc. Asians have more common sense than that =P

Maybe if an Asian was "white-washed" as people call it, then he would slit his wrist but I'm talking about real Asians who know and care for their background and don't become "white-washed"

Because emo music is typically listened to by white middle class kids who have no real issues. They listen to music about being dumped by girls with pigtails called Amy because they don't have to deal with any bigger issues that Asian kids might have to deal with (eg racism).

Also I can't really think of any Asian musicians within the genre (correct me if I'm wrong) which would be a reason.

But there's no reason why they couldn't be emo if they wanted, as long as they did it for the music not just as a fashion statement.

Emo is a musical choice and lifestyle, and yes, you ARE an Emo if you believe yourself to be one, if you like the music, if you have your hair fringe long and to the side, if you wear the clothes and have the attitude, it doesnt matter. I know girls, I know boys, of all races and ages who choose to be this way.

Tis not my cup of tea but then again, I'm much older than you and work in the music business, I see all genres walk through my door, and people judge them constantly, doesn't mean they do not have the right to be that way.

Oh, and cutting yourself is just plain stoopid and a common misconception of emo. Its mainly about the music and the clothing. I've seen happy emos, but they're the ones who dont care as to what others think of them, and they usually listen to other types of music, refuse to 'pigeon-hole' themselves.
