My emo friend?

I have a friend who is "emo", or sort of. He's growing his hair long over his eyes, and likes AFI. But that's not what I'm worried about. He cuts his wrists with his fingernails. Sometimes he breaks skin, and it really scares me. He's my best bud, and I don't want him to be a cutter.

My emo friend?

Now, please don't become angry with me,... I'm gonna give you the whole truth and nothing but the truth as they say in court.

Truth is, it doesn't matter what you "want" him to be. He is what he is, and as a women who cut myself severly for atleast ten years I can say pretty assuredly that a lot of his enjoyment from cutting comes fromt he attention and response he gets from people. Most cutters will not ever admit this. There are two sides to cutting,...

1. The serious cutter- someone who actually has attempted suicide in the past and continues to cut, or someone who cuts so deep that blood is drawn everytime to the point of pooling. Massive amounts of blood can be lost and cause a sense of euphoria, or not caring is imposed. The pain in some strange sense reminds us that we are human regardless of what we think about ourselves or how others percieve us. I was this type of cutter, and these types of cutters a very rare (not rare as in beautiful, rare as in drastic and sad). usually they attempt at all costs to hide their self inflicted wounds and become very extremely nervous or embarrassed if someone happens to glimpse one. I use to sit in class with a razorblade in my mouth, with which I'd run my tongue over the blade as kids made fun of me, cutting myself so severely once that the amount of blood I had swallowed toxified my system to the point where my system evacuated it immediately. This meant I threw up pure blood in class, not attractive, and my secret was out. Talk about counseling,... geez you have no idea. Life got even more ackward after that. The only real way to help a cutter in this stage is usually inpatient treatment, taking them away fromt he world that seems to hurt them so much.

2. Attention Cutter- Someone who uses dull or blunt objects (occasionally even sharp ones), to create superficial cuts or lesions in usually obvious areas. Or areas that can occasionally be covered or uncovered, i.e. ankles, wrists, hands, fore arms, calves, feet, chest, stomach. These people tend to be severely self concious, and also tend to have an overwhelming sense of not fitting in. Alike serious cutters, they to get a sense of gratification from cutting, because cutting causes endorphines and adrenaline to spill into the blood stream much like sexual activity,... these feelings can replace sorrow or pain, and can feel farmiliar when the whole world feels strange. They occasionally brag about their wounds, or show off their scars. They can fein embarrassment about the abrassions, or often make obvious b.s. lies up about what happened to cause the wound. The cutters normally grow out fo it when the world around them losses interest. I know my niece did. The instant we stopped drawing attention to it, she said she had become confident and didn't need to do it anymore,... funny huh? Well now she's 16 and in a whoel other world of trouble that I can't get into, but obviously she didn't get over it, it just morphed. These cutters need to learn to be proud of who they are and not count on others to make them feel good about themselves. The best bet for someone like this would be counseling or therapy. They will always say they don't need it, truth be told they want to be forced into it. Everyone needs someone to talk to and sometimes your friends just wouldn't understand no matter how much they say they would.

Okay I hope that helps.

Truth be told I think your a really good friend for asking this. Tell em what happens, keep me updated.

My emo friend?

IM SORRY BUT THATS HIS DECISION TELL AN ADULT IF YOU ARE YOUNGER THAN 21 BUT IF YOU ARE THAN YOU HAVE TO TALK TO HIM!!!!!!! HES ONLY HURTING HIMSELF PLUS THERE ISNT REALLY A POINT TO BEING EMO YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT SOME EMO QUESTIONS LIKE "WHATS THE POINT OF BEING EMO" HERE ON YAHOO. LOL

My emo friend?

I wish my lawn was emo, so it could cut it self....lol...sorry had to say it! anyways if he is cutting himself with his fingernails that is retarded! let him to do it..he is prolly just thriving for attention...so dont give it to him...emo is f*cking retarded!

My emo friend?

Well, Maybe he's depressed. Try talking to him about it. Tell him why it bothers you. If he is really your freind, he'll listen. Im currently dealing with the same issue with a friend.

He's just trying to find himself. So, try talking to him, and he'll probably listen

My emo friend?

Far out don't even worry about it man, real cutters normally don't like to tell people they cut and ****, he's obviously just doing it for attention and ****... you actually have to cut like an inch deep into your wrist to bleed to death so there's nothing to worry about. Kick his *** and tell him to stop being a friggin loser... tell him all about kids starving in Uganda and stuff and he will soon realise that he's actually pretty lucky.

(PS EMO SUCKS AND IS FOR POOVES!!!)
